Jeonnam Province Offers Up to 35% Discount on Hanwoo Beef for Lunar New Year Sale
Jeonnam Province will offer up to a 35% discount on Korean beef (Hanwoo) to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
On the 24th, the province announced that it will hold a Hanwoo meat discount event until February 14 to stabilize Hanwoo prices and promote consumption.
This discount event can be accessed through local livestock cooperatives’ Hanaro Marts, Hanwoo regional brands (Green Hanwoo and Jirisan Sunhan Hanwoo), and Jeonnam’s representative online shopping mall, ‘Namdo Jangteo’.
The event offers various products including Hanwoo grade 1 or higher for grilling (such as sirloin and tenderloin), cuts (brisket, bulgogi, soup cuts), and gift sets, all at discounts of up to 35%.
Since December 2022, when Hanwoo prices began to decline, the province has established measures to stabilize Hanwoo supply and demand.
Accordingly, the province is implementing ▲ continuous large-scale Hanwoo meat consumption promotion events such as year-round discounted sales ▲ management stabilization for breeding farms through interest-free feed purchase funds and support for improving Hanwoo weight gain rates ▲ appropriate management of Hanwoo breeding numbers through voluntary reduction of Hanwoo cows, fostering the Jeonnam Premium Hanwoo brand, and Hanwoo meat exports ▲ and is also pushing for supply-demand adjustments, farm management stabilization, and system improvements with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Park Dohwan, head of the Livestock Policy Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “Due to the economic downturn and weakened consumer sentiment, Hanwoo prices at production sites have fallen. We hope the public will actively participate in expanding Hanwoo meat consumption nationwide to stabilize supply and demand.” He added, “We also ask Hanwoo breeders to refrain from flooding the market with excessive shipments that drive prices down and to cooperate in stabilizing Hanwoo prices through planned shipments.”
