Busan Port Authority Recycles Waste PET Bottles... Donates Safety Vests and Towels
100 Port Workers Receive Safety Vests
300 Towels Donated to Vulnerable Groups
Busan Port Authority (President Kang Jun-seok, BPA) donated safety vests and towels made from waste PET bottles generated at Busan Port to port workers and vulnerable groups on the 23rd.
BPA held a ‘Waste PET Recycling Safety Vest Delivery Ceremony for Busan Port Workers’ at Hanjin Busan Container Terminal (HJNC) and delivered 100 safety vests to port workers, including cargo truck drivers using New Port Pier 3.
The event was attended by BPA Construction Headquarters Director Lee Sang-kwon and HJNC CEO Kim Gyu-kyung, among others.
Since signing a business agreement with HJNC in August last year, BPA has been jointly collecting and upcycling waste PET bottles generated at Busan Port through the “Waste-Free Busan Port Project.”
During last year, BPA and HJNC collected 3.27 tons of waste PET bottles from Busan International Passenger Terminal and New Port Pier 3 and transformed them into safety vests.
BPA also made 300 towels from the collected waste PET bottles and donated them to the ‘BPA Hope Pantry (Jinhae-gu, Changwon and Gangseo-gu, Busan)’ in December last year.
The ‘BPA Hope Pantry’ is a facility established with support from the Public Coexistence Solidarity Fund, where food ingredients and daily necessities can be used free of charge. Currently, a total of 16 locations operate in Busan, Changwon, and other areas, serving elderly residents and vulnerable groups near the port.
