Yeosu City Provides Up to 400,000 KRW Per Person for Island Residents' Delivery Fees
Residents Registered on 33 Islands
Reducing Economic Burden for Island Residents
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 23rd that it will provide up to 400,000 KRW per person annually to support additional shipping costs for island residents' daily logistics (parcel delivery).
According to the city, in island areas, additional delivery fees have been charged when using parcel services, resulting in significantly higher shipping costs compared to the mainland.
Accordingly, to alleviate the economic burden on residents, the city will support additional delivery fees of 3,000 KRW per shipment, up to a maximum of 400,000 KRW per person annually when using parcel services.
The support targets 6,098 residents registered on 33 islands within Yeosu City, including Samsan-myeon, Hwajeong-myeon, and Dolsan, who must be registered residents of the respective island areas and use parcel services under their own name.
However, ▲ parcels sent or received within Yeosu city rather than directly from the island areas, and ▲ cases where the parcel user’s name includes a business or corporate name are excluded from support.
Those wishing to receive parcel fee support must submit a parcel support application and proof of parcel usage to their local eup/myeon office, and the city plans to provide the support funds monthly to the applicant’s bank account under their name.
Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu said, “This project is essential to improve the convenience of daily life by resolving difficulties in procuring daily necessities for island residents,” adding, “We will make every effort to promote the project so that more island residents can benefit.”
