60s Subcontractor Worker Falls from Shipyard Staircase and Eventually Dies
Suspension of Work at Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje Shipyard
A man in his 60s who fell from stairs at a shipyard shipbuilding worksite and was in critical condition has ultimately passed away.
According to the police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 19th, at around 1:20 a.m. the previous day, subcontractor worker Mr. A in his 60s fell from stairs at the Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje Shipyard shipbuilding worksite in Geoje City.
Mr. A, who was managing shipbuilding work, fell approximately 3 meters down while descending the steel stairs at the worksite.
Severely injured, Mr. A was transported to the hospital but ultimately died at 6:48 a.m. on the 19th.
The company Mr. A belonged to has more than 50 regular employees and is subject to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
It is known that a work stoppage order has been issued at the accident site.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor has dispatched labor inspectors to the accident site to accurately determine the cause of the accident while investigating possible violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
