Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 19th that it will conduct hygiene inspections of food handling establishments for ancestral rites and gifts until the 26th, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
The inspection targets 20 locations, including local food manufacturers, large supermarkets, and retail stores. The inspection team will check for ▲use of expired raw materials or products ▲compliance with food hygiene handling standards ▲and conformity to facility and equipment standards.
The city will also collect samples of rice cakes, traditional Korean sweets, ancestral ritual foods, and seafood sold at traditional markets and wholesale stores to test for residual pesticides, food poisoning bacteria, and heavy metal content.
For minor violations found during the hygiene inspections, the city will order immediate corrective actions on-site, while serious violations will be subject to strict administrative measures. Establishments that intentionally or repeatedly violate regulations will face criminal charges.
