Jinju City Installs Pedestrian Path Between Railroad Culture Park and Knowledge Industry Center
Utilizing the Old Jinju Station Platform, Creating a Continuous Walking Path Anyone Wants to Walk On
On the 16th, Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced that it has completed the installation of a continuous pedestrian walkway from the Railroad Culture Park to the Knowledge Industry Center and opened it to the public.
The existing pedestrian path within the Railroad Culture Park had been disconnected due to undeveloped land on the north side of the old Jinju Station railroad site, leaving many visitors to the park disappointed.
Currently, only the Railroad Culture Park (42,000㎡) out of the 140,000㎡ of the old Jinju Station railroad site has been completed. The entire "Old Jinju Station Railroad Site Regeneration Project," including the relocation and construction of the National Jinju Museum, creation of a cultural street, establishment of an urban forest and citizen plaza, and construction of an aerospace public specialized science museum, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
Accordingly, Jinju City did not wait for the entire project to be completed and, starting last year, visited the Korea National Railway Corporation, the managing authority of the railroad site, several times to complete consultations regarding land use, enabling the installation of the pedestrian walkway on the old Jinju Station railroad site.
By utilizing the old Jinju Station platform to install the walkway, the city expects improved convenience for local residents by connecting Gangnam and Mangyeong-dong neighborhoods north and south. In addition, along with the creation of the walking path, it will be provided to citizens as a desirable route to walk, featuring canola flowers in spring and cosmos flowers in autumn.
A resident of nearby Juyak-dong, Mr. A, said, "With the pedestrian walkway installed from Railroad Culture Park to the Knowledge Industry Center, it has become convenient to visit the Dong Administrative Welfare Center and move to the Namgang River, and I can also take walks, which is great," adding, "I look forward to the upcoming transformation of the old Jinju Station railroad site."
