Early Dementia Screening Available?… Gijang-gun Offers Services for Those Aged 60 and Over
Annual Free Screening for Early Detection
Customized Management Services Provided Upon Diagnosis
Residents aged 60 and over are encouraged to come for early screening.
On the 15th, the Dementia Relief Center at the Gijang-gun Public Health Center in Busan (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) announced that it will conduct early dementia screening year-round for residents aged 60 and above.
Dementia is a disease where prevention is especially important; if detected early and treated appropriately, the progression to severe stages can be delayed or symptoms can be improved.
The Gijang-gun Public Health Center operates a counseling room for early dementia screening (dementia screening test) at all times and supports free annual screening for any Gijang-gun resident aged 60 or older, excluding those already diagnosed with dementia.
Additionally, for residents with mobility difficulties, a “visiting early screening” program is conducted targeting elderly facilities such as senior centers and welfare centers for the elderly.
Those diagnosed with dementia based on the screening results receive customized dementia management services, including care supplies, treatment cost support, and educational programs for patients and their families.
The Dementia Relief Center also operates dementia prevention education for local residents interested in dementia and cognitive enhancement classes for high-risk groups identified through early dementia screening results.
A representative from the Gijang-gun Public Health Center stated, “Since early detection of dementia is especially important, we recommend annual screening even if you have been screened in the past,” and added, “Based on the dementia screening test results, if cognitive decline is suspected, further detailed examinations by specialists can be conducted.” They expressed hope for public interest and participation.
