On the 14th, a truck that was removing mooring lines to secure a ship at the New Port in Gangseo-gu, Busan, fell into the sea, resulting in the death of one of the two workers involved.
According to the Changwon Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam, at around 3:18 PM that day, a report was received that a man in his 70s, Mr. A, and a man in his 60s, Mr. B, had fallen into the water near the South Container Pier of the New Port in Gangseo-gu.
At the time, the two were involved in an accident when a 1.5-ton truck connected to the mooring lines of a 140,000-ton Panama-flagged ship docked near the pier fell into the sea.
The truck fell into the sea as the mooring line, which was being pulled taut while being connected to the vehicle, suddenly tightened.
As a result of the accident, Mr. A, who was inside the truck, and Mr. B, who was working on land and was struck by the truck, fell into the sea.
Upon receiving a witness report, the Changwon Maritime Police dispatched patrol vessels, the New Port Police Substation’s coastal rescue boat, and the Changwon rescue team to the scene.
The maritime police rescued Mr. B, who was drifting at sea, and along with Mr. A, who was pulled onto a nearby vessel, transported them to the New Port pier and handed them over to the 119 rescue team.
Both men, who complained of hypothermia and back pain, were taken to the hospital for treatment; however, Mr. B ultimately passed away that night.
