Gyeonggi-do Seizes Deposits of High-Amount Tax Delinquents... Collects 2.84 Billion Won
Gyeonggi Province collected 2.8 billion KRW in overdue taxes by seizing deposits from delinquent taxpayers.
From May to December last year, Gyeonggi Province conducted a bulk inquiry of deposits for 64,725 high-amount delinquent taxpayers with overdue amounts exceeding 10 million KRW at 20 major banks. They seized deposits worth approximately 77.2 billion KRW from 1,589 financial assets of these taxpayers, resulting in the collection of 2.84 billion KRW in overdue taxes, the province announced on the 12th.
The deposit seizures were carried out after excluding small financial assets necessary for the minimum livelihood of the delinquent taxpayers (balances of 1.85 million KRW or less).
By city and county, Yongin-si had the highest amount of seized deposits at 12 billion KRW, followed by Suwon-si with 7.7 billion KRW, Siheung-si with 7.3 billion KRW, and Gwangju-si with 7.1 billion KRW.
Gyeonggi Province plans to continue encouraging payment from high-amount delinquent taxpayers and actively secure claims through ongoing inquiries into financial assets and other properties.
Ryu Young-yong, Director of the Tax Justice Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through this bulk deposit inquiry, it was revealed that many high-amount delinquent taxpayers deliberately avoided paying taxes exceeding 10 million KRW despite having substantial deposits." He emphasized, "We will continue vigorous collection activities through regular deposit inquiries and seizures."
