Lawmaker Song Gap-seok (Democratic Party of Korea·Gwangju Seo-gu Gap) successfully concluded his legislative report meeting amid a crowd of over 3,000 people.
On the 7th at 3 p.m., Song held the legislative report meeting at the Gwangju Kim Dae-jung Convention Center to report on his total of over six years of legislative activities, covering both his first and second terms.
Key guests included Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jung, Seo-gu District Chief Kim Yi-gang, NewsTop CEO Kim Jun-il, and Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Young-duk. Speaker of the National Assembly Kim Jin-pyo, Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, and floor leader Hong Ik-pyo sent congratulatory messages and encouragement via letters and videos.
Speaker Kim Jin-pyo praised, “Lawmaker Song has won the Korea National Assembly Legislative Award, the most honorable award a member of the National Assembly can receive, for three consecutive years. Only two out of 300 lawmakers have achieved this, proving his capability and diligence as a politician.”
Leader Lee Jae-myung said, “With deep affection for Gwangju, he has resolved local issues and served in key party positions, doing his utmost for the party’s development and innovation. Overcoming the livelihood crisis and creating a hopeful future is the path that Lawmaker Song Gap-seok has walked and the path the Democratic Party is taking.”
Reflecting on two major achievements he highlighted?the installation of elevators in the underground passage of the 27-year-old Gwangcheon Terminal and the passage of the special law for relocating Gwangju military airport?Song recalled his hard-fought efforts and stated, “Following the politics of Kim Dae-jung, I will practice politics based on conscience and conviction, prepare for the future by considering future generations, always place people’s livelihoods at the center, and open the future of Gwangju and Honam.”
Notably, eight citizens who have closely followed Song’s legislative activities delivered heartfelt congratulations and support via video, drawing attention.
Chae Hyun-jun, Academic Affairs Director of the Mudeungsan Protection Association Environmental College, expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you for your efforts to relocate the anti-aircraft artillery unit that had been stationed at the summit of Mudeungsan for nearly 60 years, blocking citizen access. It is a great achievement to have untied the first knot of a task that everyone wanted to do but no one could.”
Lee Dal-ju, former head of the organizing committee for the 2019 World Swimming Championships, recalled, “During preparations, when securing national funding was critical, I visited Lawmaker Song Gap-seok. I vividly witnessed the budget increase process?from 10 billion won to 20 billion won, then from 20 billion to 25.9 billion won?as he stepped out of meetings to meet with officials.”
He added, “I will never forget the excitement of successfully hosting the event after securing 25.9 billion won in national funding, far exceeding our target of 20 billion won,” wishing him continued success.
Park Dae-yong, former chairman of the Gwangcheon e-Pyeonhansesang Senior Citizens’ Center, who first proposed the installation of elevators in the underground passage of Gwangcheon Terminal to Lawmaker Song, expressed thanks, saying, “Elderly and chronically ill people had great difficulty going up and down, especially in summer. Thanks to Lawmaker Song, the elevator was completed in 2020, and everyone uses it conveniently with gratitude.”
Kwon Chang-soon, Executive Director working at a global optoelectronics company manufacturing core components for 5G communication networks, said, “When the export regulations on materials, parts, and equipment arose four years ago, I attended a meeting chaired by Lawmaker Song and shared our difficulties. He actively resolved our issues, and with help from government research institutes, we were able to achieve overseas exports.” He added, “I always support Lawmaker Song, who listens attentively to voices from the field.”
Pastor Park Wol-yang, who runs a local children’s center in Seo-gu, introduced, “Before becoming a lawmaker, Song Gap-seok, principal of Gwangju School, was a warm tall gentleman who delivered hope cakes monthly to children at the local children’s center. Those children have now grown well, becoming university students and adults who exert positive influence in the community,” expressing gratitude.
A self-employed person in Seo-gu, Mr. A, said, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, I struggled by closing my business and working in delivery and driving services. I am grateful that Lawmaker Song proposed and quickly passed legislation compensating local small business losses. I hope he continues to propose good livelihood-related bills,” showing support.
B, a prospective resident of Hwajeong-dong I-Park who suffered damage from a collapse accident, said, “I believe the final agreement between Hyundai Development Company and prospective residents was possible thanks to Lawmaker Song Gap-seok listening to citizens’ voices. I was truly grateful as if he was speaking on our behalf.”

Meanwhile, Lawmaker Song Gap-seok has resolved major local issues such as legislation for the special law on relocating Gwangju military airport, opening the summit of Mudeungsan (Inwang Peak) and relocating the anti-aircraft artillery unit, passing the Korea Energy Engineering University Act, and legislating the ‘Second Pangyo Valley’ urban convergence special zone law. He has also served in key party positions including Democratic Party Supreme Council member, Strategic Planning Committee Chair, and spokesperson, earning recognition for his policy capabilities, leadership, and drive.
