Diagnosing and Treating Dementia Through Conversation... Dongmyeong University and Revengrid Develop Conversation App
Non-face-to-face Speech Analysis and Data Construction
Cognitive Enhancement Rehabilitation through 'Hoesangdonghwa'
A smart 'conversation app' that analyzes speech to diagnose dementia has been developed and is nearing commercialization.
This marks the beginning of an era where dementia can be diagnosed and treated without face-to-face interaction.
The developed smartphone conversation app and artificial intelligence (AI) efficiently handle the analysis of seniors' utterances (realistic language acts spoken aloud) and speech acts.
Professor Kim Giju (Department of Electrical and Automotive Engineering) at Dongmyung University and Levengrida (CEO Kang Hyunju) have developed a dementia diagnosis system using a smart speech app and are moving toward commercialization.
This system uses data generated through conversations between seniors and the app to create reminiscence fairy tale content and provides personalized education to improve cognitive abilities.
The stories spoken by the senior being tested are inputted and turned into fairy tales; after building a fairy tale database, other testers add their opinions to adapt and develop it into a new fairy tale database.
In this way, an infinite variety of fairy tale content (autobiographies, voice recordings, photos, videos, etc.) can be built as big data.
Professor Kim Giju explained, “We conduct non-face-to-face tests of seniors' physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities to manage cognitive impairments such as dementia.”
He added, “The accumulated data from test results can be used in various materials to contribute to a healthy life,” and noted, “Gerontechnology, a technology aimed at improving the quality of life for the elderly, stands out.”
Gerontechnology is a compound word of gerontology and technology.
