'Clova eKYC' is a service that extracts necessary information from identity cards and certificates submitted online by users based on Naver's verified text detection and recognition technology, and verifies the authenticity of the identity cards through the electronic systems of third-party certification institutions. It prevents fraudulent use of online identity verification and allows customers to conveniently use financial services without visiting financial institutions in person. The number of financial institutions adopting the service is increasing, with sales more than doubling this year compared to last year.
The newly added facial recognition feature requires users to submit one additional photo in addition to the existing identity card submission and secondary authentication (ARS authentication, which verifies an authentication code after a 1 KRW account deposit or phone call) steps for identity verification. The system compares the identity card with the submitted photo, returns a similarity score, and proceeds with the facial authentication process, making the identity verification process safer.
Naver Cloud provides software development kits (SDKs) so that companies can adopt 'Clova eKYC' optimized for their respective business environments. Companies can choose between the previously provided application programming interface (API) and the newly offered SDK to develop customized services suitable for their business environment.
Through the 'CLOVA eKYC' SDK, companies can apply the identity card physical verification (Thickness check) feature to prevent fraudulent authentication using photos of identity cards printed on paper. This allows users to slightly move the physical identity card during authentication to check its thickness and determine whether it is genuine.
