Ministry of Unification Strongly Condemns North Korea's Nuclear Missile Advancement and Shift in Policy Toward South Korea
"Will Promote a Strong ROK-US Alliance Foundation"
The government stated on the 31st, "We strongly condemn North Korea for expressing a hostile stance externally, including the continuous advancement of nuclear missiles and a fundamental shift in its policy toward South Korea, as reported in the Workers' Party plenary meeting."

An official from the Ministry of Unification said regarding North Korea's announcement that "The government will overwhelmingly deter North Korea's threats based on the strong ROK-US alliance and consistently pursue the normalization of inter-Korean relations based on principles."
The official added, "We will further strengthen cooperation with the international community so that North Korea can halt nuclear missile development and human rights abuses and move toward denuclearization and improving the livelihood of its people."

Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, in the 'conclusion' of the plenary meeting reported that day, defined inter-Korean relations as those between 'two hostile and belligerent states' and declared a fundamental change in the policy toward South Korea. North Korea also emphasized that it will continue to build the foundation to expand nuclear weapons production next year.
