Geumcheon-gu East Welfare Council Completes 'Creating a Warm Geumcheon-dong Where Neighbors Care for Neighbors' Project
Specialized Projects Conducted for Low-Income Vulnerable Groups by Welfare Councils in 10 Neighborhoods
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that from March to December, the Geumcheon-gu Dong Welfare Council carried out the "Creating Warm Geumcheon-dong" project, where neighbors take care of each other.
"Creating Warm Geumcheon-dong" is a specialized project conducted by the welfare councils of the 10 neighborhoods in Geumcheon-gu, targeting over 800 low-income vulnerable households in each neighborhood.
This welfare project involves neighbors caring for neighbors through activities such as cooking and sharing meals with single middle-aged households, providing side dishes to socially isolated households, delivering daily necessities and handwritten letters to vulnerable residents, and preparing birthday meals for elderly people living alone.
The Geumcheon-gu Dong Welfare Council is a neighborhood-level public-private cooperative welfare community composed of about 190 members, including residents, social welfare workers, and public officials, aiming to discover welfare blind spots and provide meticulous welfare services.
To strengthen the capabilities of the Dong Welfare Council, the district operates a Dong Welfare School for each neighborhood. At the Dong Welfare School, education is provided to council members on discovering village welfare agendas, establishing welfare plans, and understanding the roles of the council.
In addition to the specialized projects, the Geumcheon-gu Dong Welfare Council donated 5,792,000 KRW earned from operating a food booth at the social welfare expo "Geumcheon Welfare Sharing Festival" held last September as a warm winter fund.
Kim Myung-ja, chairperson of the Siheung 3-dong Welfare Council and representative of the Geumcheon-gu Dong Welfare Council, said, "I hope this will be of some help in assisting the neighbors in need in Geumcheon-gu," and added, "We will strive to become a council that resolves welfare blind spots through supporting and discovering vulnerable groups and sharing difficulties."
