427 Newly Appointed Gyeonggi-do Firefighters...A Strong Start for Residents' Safety

View original imageA total of 427 new firefighters completed 19 weeks of training and officially became firefighters protecting the safety of 14 million residents of Gyeonggi Province.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 28th that it held the "2023 New Firefighter Appointment Ceremony" at the Gyeonggi Fire School in Yongin.
About 1,400 people attended the appointment ceremony, including Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon, An Gye-il, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council's Safety and Administration Committee, other provincial council members, National Assembly member Oh Young-hwan, Cho Sun-ho, Head of the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, new firefighters, and their families, encouraging the new firefighters on their fresh start.
In his congratulatory speech, Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, "I sincerely congratulate you on becoming proud firefighters of Gyeonggi Province after passing the difficult appointment exam and completing the tough training process," adding, "Regardless of the country, firefighters are ranked as the most respected profession. Please do not forget your initial resolve today and become a strong pillar responsible for Gyeonggi Province."
He continued, "It is said that a firefighter's motto is to be the first to respond to the scene and the last to leave. Please take responsibility for the lives and safety of Gyeonggi residents according to that motto," and added, "However, even when you are the last to leave, please also protect your own safety and health."
Among those appointed on this day, nine representatives including Firefighter Lim Min-gyu, the 77th class trainee representative, received commendations from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, and three firefighters including Kang Woo-seok received commendations from the Chairman of the Provincial Council. Then, the trainee representative solemnly took an oath to fulfill the duties of a public servant to the people.
The 427 new firefighters entered the Gyeonggi Fire School on August 16 and completed 19 weeks of residential training, receiving education and training necessary as firefighters in fire, rescue, emergency medical services, prevention, and general knowledge. They will be assigned to various stations to perform their duties.

Meanwhile, among these new firefighters, some have unique backgrounds that drew attention. Firefighter Jeong Yu-gyeong is a first graduate of the Korea Fire Meister High School and became the youngest firefighter in Korea to be hired based on firefighting experience. Fire Chief Geum Nan-young is one of only about 2,000 certified fire facility managers nationwide. Firefighter Jeong Yul has experience serving in the military as a volunteer firefighter.
