Seongnam City, 170 Million Won in Hometown Love Donations... Twice the Target Amount
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province exceeded its donation target by 200% this year through the ‘Hometown Love Donation Program’.
Implemented from January 1st this year, the Hometown Love Donation Program allows individuals to donate up to 5 million KRW annually to any local government other than their registered residence, receiving tax credit benefits and thank-you gifts worth up to 30% of the donation amount.
If a person donates 100,000 KRW to Seongnam City, they receive a full tax credit of 100,000 KRW during year-end tax settlement and thank-you gifts worth approximately 30,000 KRW, effectively getting back a total of 130,000 KRW.
Since the program’s implementation in January, as of the 26th of this month, 1,825 people have donated a total of over 170 million KRW to Seongnam City. This amount is more than double the city’s original donation target of 80 million KRW for this year.
Looking at the donors participating in the Hometown Love Donation Program in detail, 86% reside in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The largest age group was people in their 30s and 40s, accounting for 79%. By donation amount, 85% of all donors contributed 100,000 KRW, which qualifies for the full tax credit.
The most popular thank-you gift was the mobile Seongnam Love Gift Certificate, followed by items such as Jeungja-bae (a traditional Korean fermented drink), natural honey, perilla oil crafts, and traditional liquor.
