Imsil-gun Selected for Signboard Improvement Contest... Secures 298 Million Won
On the 26th, Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk announced that it has been finally selected for the ‘2024 Signboard Improvement Contest Project’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing 298 million KRW in national funding.
This selection marks the second signboard improvement project following Osu-ri, Osu-myeon, aiming to create a pleasant street environment and revitalize the stagnant local commercial district through new signboard renovations.
The county plans to improve the streetscape by replacing old signboards and renovating building facades along a 2,440m section from Imsil Bonghwang Talent Academy Intersection to Seongga-ri, targeting 86 buildings and 158 businesses with a project budget of 596 million KRW.
Through this project, the disorderly signboards of aging stores along Bonghwang-ro, the central street of Imsil-eup, will be removed, and distinctive signboards that harmonize with the surrounding environment will be installed to promote a clean and safe ‘Bonghwang-ro Street Creation.’
The project will be carried out as a resident-participatory initiative, collecting voluntary resident participation and opinions from the preparation stage.
It is expected to contribute to revitalizing the commercial district and improving the pleasant urban aesthetics while enhancing synergy effects in connection with the Seongga District Urban Regeneration New Deal Project.
Additionally, ‘Imsil Warehouse 1964,’ recently opened in the downtown area of Imsil-eup, is gaining popularity among residents and visitors, and it is anticipated that the completion of the signboard improvement project will provide an even more beautiful cityscape.
‘Imsil Warehouse 1964’ was promoted as part of the Jeonbuk-style Sunshine-filled Rural Regeneration Project, remodeling a 140-pyeong grain warehouse into a bakery cafe startup space, and opened last October.
Along with this, the county expects the project to have a significant effect in instilling a positive image of Imsil-gun among the rapidly increasing visitors centered around Imsil Cheese Theme Park, Okjeongho Lake, Seongsusan Mountain, Osu Uigyeon Tourist Site, and Saseondae.
County Governor Shim Min said, “We will create a unique street in Imsil by actively reflecting local residents’ opinions in the signboard improvement project,” adding, “This will be an opportunity to revitalize the local commercial district and boost the local economy through increased consumption.”
