Samsung Heavy, Orders Two Ultra-Large Ammonia Carriers for 310.8 Billion Won
Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 26th that it has secured an order for two ultra-large ammonia carriers (VLAC) from a shipowner in the Oceania region, totaling 310.8 billion KRW.
The vessels are expected to be delivered sequentially to the shipowner by June 2027.
With this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries' cumulative orders for this year have increased to a total of 28 vessels, amounting to 6.8 billion USD, which is 72% of the annual target of 9.5 billion USD.
Ammonia (NH3) contains no carbon and therefore does not emit carbon dioxide when combusted. The increasing demand for carbon-reducing fuels is expected to lead to an expansion in maritime transport volumes, gradually increasing the scale of orders for ammonia carriers.
