Jang Deok-hyun, President of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and 50 Others Selected as New Regular Members of the National Academy of Engineering
58 Members Including Song Jaehyuk, CTO of Samsung Electronics DS Division, Become General Members
The National Academy of Engineering of Korea announced on the 26th that it has selected 50 people, including Jang Deok-hyun, President and CEO of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, as new regular members for next year. Additionally, 58 people, including Song Jae-hyuk, President and CTO of Samsung Electronics Semiconductor (DS) Division and Head of the Semiconductor Research Center, were listed as general members.
Members of the Academy of Engineering are selected after a 10-month review process of experts who have achieved outstanding research results in companies, universities, and institutions (research institutes). Regular members are selected from among the general members. The term for regular members is 5 years, and for general members, it is 3 years.

Among the regular members, 25 from academia and 25 from industry were selected. In the industry sector, President Jang Deok-hyun, Jang Byung-gyu, Chairman of the Board of Krafton, and Son Ji-woong, President of LG Chem, were selected. In academia, 25 people including Professor Kwon Seong-hoon of Seoul National University and Professor Park Soo-kyung of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) were chosen.
As new general members, a total of 58 people were selected, including 30 from academia and 28 from industry. In the industry sector, President Song Jae-hyuk and Oh Seung-hyun, Vice President and CEO of HD Hyundai Infracore, were selected. In academia, Professor Kang Yeon-jun of Seoul National University and Yang Oh-bong, President of Jeonbuk National University, were chosen.

The Academy of Engineering now has 289 regular members and 369 general members. Among the 108 new members this year, 16 are women, accounting for 14.8% of the total.
