Wando-gun Holds 'Sunrise Viewing' Event to Wish for Success in Marine Healing Industry

Event at Myeongsashilli Plaza to be held at 6:30 AM on January 1 next year

Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) will hold a ‘Sunrise Viewing Event’ on January 1st next year to welcome the new year of Gapjin (甲辰 year).

According to the county on the 26th, this sunrise event will be held at the ‘Myeongsashipri Event Plaza’ near the Marine Healing Center, which opened on the 24th of last month, to commemorate the flagship project ‘The First Year of the Marine Healing Industry’.

The event will begin with a pre-ceremony performance at 6:30 AM, followed by a pungmul troupe parade, a fusion performance combining popera and traditional Korean music, large drum playing, and a ‘Wish Balloon Release’ where participants write their wishes on notes and release them attached to eco-friendly balloons.

Local community organizations will prepare and provide visitors with hot packs, warm tea, and tteokguk containing Wando specialties, sharing warmth on site.

Especially, anticipating a large number of attendees, the county plans to conduct a safety inspection on the 29th and establish a cooperative system with related agencies such as the Wando Police Station, as well as emergency medical support teams and on-site response teams to do their best to prevent safety accidents.

A county official said, “The sunrise viewed from the open Shinjimyeongsashipri Beach will be a magnificent sight,” adding, “We hope that residents and tourists can leave meaningful memories while praying for peace and the fulfillment of their wishes in the new year.”

Meanwhile, the Wando Marine Healing Center, located at Shinjimyeongsashipri Beach where the sunrise event is held, will operate normally on January 1st (opening at 9 AM, programs starting at 10 AM) and offer marine healing programs at a 50% discounted rate for visitors.
