Recently, the National Tax Service has been closely scrutinizing celebrities, webtoon artists, YouTubers, and others who enjoy high earnings but have not properly paid taxes. In February, they identified 84 cases of tax evasion, including webtoon artists who falsely processed fake labor costs under false names and YouTubers who failed to properly report tens of billions of won in lecture income, leading to a large-scale tax investigation. The YouTubers accused at that time omitted income by using alias accounts or virtual currencies. In 2019 and 2021, the National Tax Service conducted four rounds of investigations on a total of 220 people, discovering 326.6 billion KRW in unreported sales and collecting 141.4 billion KRW in taxes.
