Victims of Humidifier Disinfectant Increased to a Total of 5,667 People
250 Additional Victims Recognized
Relief Procedures Planned for 980 Pending Review Applicants
The number of victims affected by humidifier disinfectants has increased to a total of 5,667. On the 22nd, the Ministry of Environment held the 38th Humidifier Disinfectant Damage Relief Committee meeting, recognizing an additional 250 people as victims and determining the damage grades for 181 existing victims. Additionally, six lung cancer deceased were also recognized as victims of humidifier disinfectants.
Through six Humidifier Disinfectant Damage Relief Committee meetings this year, a total of 3,833 people were reviewed. As a result, compared to last year, the number of newly recognized victims increased from 298 to 1,095. The Ministry of Environment additionally collected 125 billion KRW in damage relief contributions from humidifier disinfectant and raw material businesses and officially introduced a reexamination system to protect the rights and interests of victims.

The Ministry of Environment also plans to proceed with damage relief procedures for 980 pending individuals who have appealed for damage or submitted documents but whose reviews were deferred.
