Gwangjin-gu Completes Improvement Construction for Better Lighting Environment in Residential Areas
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has carried out a 'Light Environment Improvement Project' to replace old security lights in residential areas with LED lighting.
The district promoted this project with the goal of creating a safe walking environment. By replacing dim, outdated lights with energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) lights, the nighttime alleys were brightly illuminated.
The target areas were Guui-dong, Jayang-dong, Hwayang-dong, and Gunja-dong, where apartment complexes are densely located. Work began in March, replacing 542 lights. As a result, 8,460 out of 9,130 security lights installed in the district were improved, raising the LED adoption rate to 92%.
LED lighting has the significant advantage of crime prevention. The high illuminance makes it easy to identify objects. Additionally, there is no intrusion light entering homes, so concerns about light pollution are minimal.
Furthermore, the low power consumption leads to cost savings. The improvement project will continue next year to replace all residential security lights with LEDs, creating an even safer passage environment.
