Opening of Gwangyang Seafood Distribution Center
Expectations for Distribution Culture Coexistence and Safe Food Hub Spaces
Gwangyang City in Jeonnam announced that the 'Gwangyang Seafood Distribution Center,' a themed seafood complex center (distribution + dining + culture, etc.) that will serve as a seafood distribution hub for the eastern region of Jeonnam, opened on the 22nd at 69 Hangman 9-ro (in front of Jungma General Pier).
At the opening ceremony, about 100 people, including Gwangyang Mayor Jeong In-hwa, National Assembly member Seo Dong-yong, Gwangyang City Council Chairman Seo Young-bae, and heads of related organizations and groups, attended to celebrate the opening of the Gwangyang Seafood Distribution Center as a safe food hub and the center's operation to revitalize the local economy.
The 'Gwangyang Seafood Distribution Center' was built to supply affordable and fresh seafood to Gwangyang and the eastern region of Jeonnam. It covers a site area of 6,303㎡ (1,906 pyeong), a building area of 2,152㎡ (651 pyeong), and a total floor area of 6,951㎡ (2,102 pyeong), with one basement floor and four above-ground floors, handling king crabs, live fish, shellfish, dried seafood, and more.
The first floor above ground operates as a seafood wholesale market and convenience store, where various seafood produced seasonally and regionally is supplied wholesale from production sites nationwide. Seawater (raw water) is supplied by the Hadong County Fisheries Cooperative in Gyeongnam.
In particular, to promote the safety of local seafood and encourage consumption, thorough radiation and water quality inspections of seafood will be conducted to alleviate citizens' concerns and ensure they can consume seafood with peace of mind.
The second and third floors above ground operate as set meal restaurants and seafood specialty restaurants, where customers can enjoy a variety of top-quality seafood safely supplied, prepared on the spot.
Additionally, the large conference room (100 seats), small meeting room (20 seats), children's playroom, and nursing room are available free of charge to various groups through prior reservation, providing venues for various meetings and gatherings needed in the community.
The fourth floor above ground operates as a caf?, promotional lounge, and busking space, offering a charming location where visitors can enjoy the magnificent view of the 'Yi Sun-sin Bridge' connecting Gwangyang and Yeosu, along with a panoramic view of the Gwangyang sea, and enjoy diverse nightscapes.
Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang said, “We expect the Gwangyang Seafood Distribution Center to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy by establishing a seafood distribution infrastructure in the eastern region of Jeonnam as a safe food hub where distribution and culture coexist. We will do our best to supply affordable and high-quality seafood not only to residents of Gwangyang but also to those in neighboring areas.”
