The Top Small Entrepreneur program is a system that discovers and rewards small business owners who have actively strived in management innovation, service improvement, technology, and research and development. It was introduced last year to boost management motivation and promote the sound development of small business owners.
In the small business owner category, Sarangiyagi (Gumi, Gyeongbuk) and Suni-ne Buljjukkumi (Chuncheon, Gangwon) were selected. CEO Jeong Taeyoung of Sarangiyagi was originally a wedding photography specialist company, but to overcome declining demand, he successfully created new sales by entering the family photo and reminder wedding markets, led by social networking service (SNS) marketing. CEO Jang Hyunseong of Suni-ne Buljjukkumi contributed to fostering local food by producing potato noodles made from Gangwon-do potatoes himself. He also took the lead in revitalizing the commercial district by creating a food alley prosperity association within the region.
In the small manufacturer category, CEO Lee Sanggeun of Mopec (Gimhae, Gyeongnam), CEO Yoon Hyunsu of Eltech (Yuseong-gu, Daejeon), and CEO Son Sunghyun of Incense World (Icheon, Gyeonggi) were selected. CEO Lee secured core technology for battery production, developed patents for future energy technology, and secured global secondary battery manufacturers as clients. CEO Yoon achieved an average annual sales growth of over 30% through a successful transition by developing in-house technology in the water industry valve sector amid intensified competition in the electronic circuit design industry. CEO Son is one of the few remaining domestic manufacturers specializing in air fresheners.
In the traditional market merchant category, CEO Jo Sooyoung of Seongil Susan (Pohang, Gyeongbuk) was awarded. He pioneered new sales channels through personal broadcasting and contributed to revitalizing the local economy by promoting the traditional market in the Guryongpo area.
