‘Neulbom Bapsang’ is one of the self-help groups under ‘Haengbok Majung,’ a mutual care network where seniors take care of other seniors. As the name suggests, members cook together, engage in conversations, and build camaraderie.
Operating since 2021, ‘Neulbom Bapsang’ goes beyond mutual care to extend sharing within the community. They communicate and form strong bonds with neighbors facing difficulties such as grandparent-grandchild households, people with disabilities, families affected by dementia, and care workers, using shared meals as a medium.
A senior living alone who was invited to ‘Neulbom Bapsang’ expressed their gratitude, saying, “I have always been the one preparing family meals but never received one myself. Today is the most special day of my life.”
Recently, the seniors of ‘Neulbom Bapsang’ gained attention for preparing a warm meal for care workers approaching retirement. This event was held to express appreciation for the unseen efforts of care workers who assist seniors living alone with their daily lives and to offer heartfelt comfort.
The district especially emphasized the significance of this sharing being led and actively participated in by the seniors themselves.
In addition to ‘Neulbom Bapsang,’ various other self-help groups are actively operating, such as ‘Golmok School’ which practices learning, ‘Maeuljigi’ which offers talent donations, ‘Healing Tour’ which organizes outings, and ‘Nuri Box,’ a board game gathering.
The district plans to prepare for the increasing care demands in the aging era through ‘Haengbok Majung,’ a community-integrated care network and senior-to-senior care system, ensuring that seniors can spend their later years stably and happily.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We will continue to pay close attention to senior self-help groups so that Neulbom Bapsang, which spreads positive influence, can expand. We will provide generous support for senior welfare to prevent social isolation among seniors and promote a happy old age.”
