Heavy Snow and Cold Wave Freeze the Nation... 150 Cases of Water Meter Freezing
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) announced on the 21st that facility damages, including 150 cases of water meter freezing across the country due to heavy snow and cold waves, have occurred.
As of 6 p.m. that day, water meter freezing cases were reported as 90 in Seoul, 18 in Gyeonggi, 7 in Incheon, and 15 in Gangwon. There were 3 cases of frozen water pipes in Gyeonggi. All frozen water meters and pipes have since been repaired.
Facilities and transportation were also restricted due to heavy snow and cold waves. A total of 12 flights were canceled, including 4 flights in Jeju.
Local roads in 6 counties in Jeonnam and 12 sections of provincial roads, as well as 68 vessels on 57 passenger ship routes including the route connecting Incheon and Mokpo, were also restricted. Additionally, 84 trails in 5 national parks, including 23 trails in the Dadohae area, were closed.
No casualties have been reported to the CDSCH yet. There were 3 cases of cold-related illnesses on the 20th, totaling 85 cases since the 1st of this month. Although there were traffic accidents resulting in fatalities, they were not directly caused by the cold wave or heavy snow and thus are excluded from the CDSCH statistics.
