Construction of 'Clean Hydrogen Test and Evaluation Center' with 48 Billion Won Investment in Pyeongtaek (Comprehensive)
Pyeongtaek City Finalized for Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Project
Establishment of Clean Hydrogen Test Equipment and Research Facility
Gyeonggi Province will invest 48 billion KRW to build a ‘Clean Hydrogen Testing and Evaluation Center’ in Pyeongtaek Brain City.
On the 21st, Gyeonggi Province announced that Pyeongtaek City was finally selected for the ‘Clean Hydrogen Testing, Evaluation, and Demonstration Support Infrastructure Project’ promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Earlier in July, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held a briefing session for a nationwide public contest project to establish a clean hydrogen testing and evaluation center targeting local governments and research institutions across the country.
The clean hydrogen testing and evaluation center construction project will invest a total of 48 billion KRW, including 30 billion KRW from the national government, 5.4 billion KRW from the provincial government, and 12.6 billion KRW from the city government, by 2026 in the Pyeongtaek Brain City General Industrial Complex. The center will be built on 15,000㎡ (7,000㎡ of total floor area) and will include clean hydrogen testing equipment, a testing and research building, and a corporate support building. It will serve as a comprehensive support institution in the hydrogen industry sector, covering ▲testing and evaluation ▲certification and verification ▲commercialization ▲human resource development ▲global expansion.
The project’s lead institution is the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency, which has experience and capabilities in hydrogen production and operation. Participating institutions include Korea Gas Technology Corporation, Pyeongtaek Urban Corporation, KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), KOTITI Testing & Research Institute, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction.
In Gyeonggi Province, 719 companies, accounting for 30% of the 2,642 hydrogen and related companies nationwide, are located. Including the nearby central region, this figure approaches 50%. Pyeongtaek offers excellent corporate accessibility with railroads, highways, ports, and the Godeok International New City, and it is close to major corporations such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, as well as educational institutions like KAIST, making it easy to secure outstanding talent.
