Smart City Patrol Robot to Appear in Songdo Central Park
Newbility, SK Telecom, and SK Shieldus Jointly Develop
Camera-Based Stable Autonomous Driving in Urban Environments
AI CCTV for Self-Analysis and Judgment of Abnormal Situations
A smart city patrol robot will be introduced in Songdo, Incheon. SK Shieldus announced on the 21st that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, Incheon Smart City, and Newbility to realize a safe and smart Incheon.
This agreement was made to strengthen Incheon's future public safety capabilities through the introduction of patrol robots. SK Shieldus will pilot the patrol robot in Songdo Central Park, Incheon. The patrol robot will autonomously patrol high-risk areas and inspect facilities 24 hours a day, day and night, and in case of abnormal situations, it will contribute to rapid incident and accident response by linking with the police agency's control center. In addition, to ensure the safety of park users, the robot will broadcast safety announcements during patrols by recognizing motorcycles, electric kickboards, bicycles, and other vehicles.
The patrol robot, jointly developed by Newbility, SK Telecom, and SK Shieldus, is camera-based and capable of stable autonomous driving in urban environments. Also, it is equipped with the artificial intelligence (AI) CCTV ‘Caps ViewGuard AI,’ which can independently analyze and judge abnormal behavior. With a 5-megapixel high-definition video recording function, it can clearly identify people and objects even at night, supporting efficient monitoring operations.
After jointly developing the AI patrol robot in March, SK Shieldus and Newbility conducted pilot operations at Duksung Women's University campus and Gangwon National University Samcheok campus, developing and enhancing patrol functions to respond to various risk scenarios. Through the pilot operation at Songdo Central Park, the patrol robot will be utilized in urban areas in cooperation with the police, and the entire process from robot operation, monitoring, to dispatch will be reviewed to identify improvements and supplement functions.
