Dredging Soil Transport Barge Sinks at Incheon Yeonan Pier... 70s Crew Member Unconscious
A barge used for transporting dredged soil sank off the coast of Incheon. The Coast Guard rescued a crew member in his 70s, but he was unconscious.
According to the Incheon Coast Guard Station on the 21st, a report was received the previous day at 7:53 p.m. that a 531-ton barge moored near Yeonan Pier in Jung-gu, Incheon, was flooding.
The Coast Guard deployed patrol boats, rescue teams, and special forces to conduct an underwater search and found the unconscious crew member, Mr. A, in his 70s, inside the vessel at 2:22 a.m. that day. The Coast Guard confirmed that the sunken vessel was used to transport dredged soil and is investigating the cause of the accident.
A Coast Guard official stated, "Mr. A was alone on the barge," adding, "He was found without consciousness and breathing and was immediately transported to the hospital."
