Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that the 'Top 10 Yeongdeungpo News of the Year' chosen by residents and employees ranked the ‘Launch of the Future Education Foundation and Creative Talent Project’ as number one.
From December 13 to 19, the district conducted a survey on the district website and the Saeol system, a public official work portal, to select the top 10 projects that garnered the most public support among initiatives that brought changes to residents' lives throughout 2023, naming them the 'Yeongdeungpo Top 10 News.'
A total of 7,996 people participated in voting on 21 projects, with each person allowed to vote for up to three projects, resulting in a total of 21,706 votes.
The ‘Launch of the Future Education Foundation and Creative Talent Project,’ which received 2,373 votes (10.93%) and took first place, is one of Mayor Choi Ho-kwon’s key initiatives. The district explained, “The Future Education Foundation, set to launch in January next year, will serve as the control tower for Yeongdeungpo’s education policy and will be a differentiated educational policy organization compared to the past.”
The Future Education Foundation’s roles are broadly threefold: ▲ nurturing scientific future talents to prepare for advanced jobs in the 4th industrial revolution ▲ creating a premium lifelong education city for all residents ▲ realizing education that accompanies and supports socially vulnerable groups.
In fact, since Yeongdeungpo had no significant education policies before, the launch of the Future Education Foundation was warmly welcomed by residents and selected as the top news of the year.
The second place went to ‘Second Sejong Cultural Center and Yeongdeungpo Arts Center, Cultural Infrastructure 1+1,’ which received 2,363 votes (10.89%). With the construction of the Second Sejong Cultural Center by Seoul City and the Yeongdeungpo Arts Center by the district, the district’s cultural competitiveness is expected to double. This achievement was recognized for solidifying Yeongdeungpo’s status as the only legally designated cultural city in Seoul, earning it second place.
The district stated, “Currently, a feasibility study for the construction of the Yeongdeungpo Arts Center is underway. In November, we held the inauguration ceremony for the construction promotion committee and began the project. We plan to proceed with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s feasibility study, investment review, and design competition, aiming to start construction in 2026.”

According to a district official, “At the beginning of this year, we recruited volunteers and received an overwhelming 707 applications. After completing basic training, volunteer activities began in early May with teams of two. We plan to enhance the project’s substance and propose its expansion to the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Seoul City.”
Following these, the rankings were ▲ 6th ‘Creation of Anyangcheon Riverside Vitality Hub’ ▲ 7th ‘2023 Local Government Joint Evaluation S (Highest) Grade Selection’ ▲ 8th ‘Safe Playgrounds for Our Children, Seoul-style Kids Cafes’ ▲ 9th ‘2023 Hope and Happiness Residents’ Meeting’ ▲ 10th ‘Everyday Gardens Everywhere, Creating the City of Flowers Yeongdeungpo.’
