Mapo-gu to Host First New Year's Countdown Event at Hongdae Red Road This Year
New Year Celebration with Performances, Flea Market, Food Trucks, and More
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, "Committed to Making Memorable Start to the New Year"
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-su) announced that it will hold the ‘New Year’s Red Road Countdown’ event for the first time this year on the night of the 31st from 11:00 PM until 12:20 AM the next day at the Hongdae Red Road area (R5, R6).
The Red Road Countdown is an ambitious event prepared by Mapo-gu to cheerfully welcome the upcoming 2024 Year of the Blue Dragon to tourists on the Red Road.
To ensure the successful hosting of the countdown event that marks the start of the new year, Mapo-gu will set up a stage at Red Road R6 and install a large clock tower in the center of the stage that is clearly visible to tourists from a distance.
To offer Red Road tourists a rich beginning to the Year of the Blue Dragon, Mapo-gu has prepared various celebratory performances before and after the countdown to warmly fill the hearts of tourists during the cold winter.
Starting with announcer Lee Jae-yong as the host, singers Choi Soo-ho and Jin-wook, who appeared on Mr. Trot 2 in 2023, will take the stage until 11:55 PM to fully excite the tourists.
The official countdown to welcome the New Year begins at 11:55 PM. As the hour approaches, Mayor Park Kang-su of Mapo-gu, guests, and tourists will count down together to welcome the new Year of the Blue Dragon. At midnight, a New Year’s performance will take place, followed by a congratulatory performance by singer Ahn Sung-hoon.
Additionally, at R5, a flea market featuring various handmade crafts will be set up along with food trucks to captivate tourists’ tastes. Various experiential events such as checking New Year’s fortunes and writing New Year’s wish messages will also be prepared to engage tourists’ interest.
Since the event is held at Hongdae Red Road, which is emerging as a world-renowned attraction, safety has not been overlooked. With large crowds expected at Red Road during the year-end, Mapo-gu plans to temporarily designate Red Road R5 and R6 as ‘car-free zones’ to do its utmost to prevent safety accidents.
Mayor Park Kang-su of Mapo-gu said, “We have prepared with all our passion so that everyone can start the upcoming 2024 Year of the Blue Dragon at Hongdae Red Road with beautiful and good memories, and we hope for active participation. Mapo-gu will continue to make every effort in various ways next year for the happiness and well-being of residents and tourists.”
