Naju-si Awarded 'Grand Prize' in Clean Jeonnam Best Village Creation Evaluation
Naju City in Jeollanam-do won the grand prize in the ‘Clean Jeonnam Best Village Making’ evaluation, which improves village environments led by residents.
The city announced on the 19th that it secured 50 million KRW in prize money by winning the grand prize among 22 cities and counties in the province at the Clean Jeonnam Best Village Making Project Performance Sharing Conference held on the 18th at the Kim Dae-jung Auditorium of the Jeonnam Provincial Office.
This project is a Jeonnam provincial government-led policy aiming for ‘awareness change,’ ‘environmental cleanup,’ and ‘landscape improvement,’ where residents lead the improvement of village environments by 2030.

This year, 136 villages participated in the project. Various types of projects suitable for each village’s characteristics and conditions, such as ‘village mural painting,’ ‘village design mailboxes and nameplates production,’ and ‘village small park creation,’ were successfully promoted.
In particular, the Clean Jeonnam Best Village consulting team activities unique to Naju City and various workshops and educational activities promoted to revitalize village communities and communication maximized the synergy effect of the project, receiving high evaluations in the comprehensive assessment section.
Along with the grand prize in the comprehensive evaluation, excellent results were also achieved in the village-level evaluation. Mahyeon Village in Donggang-myeon, in its third year of the project, and Okryeon Village in Bannam-myeon, Bokryong Village in Donggang-myeon, and Seondong Village in Bonghwang-myeon, all in their first year, were selected as excellent villages in Jeollanam-do and will receive an additional 2 million KRW in project funds next year.
Mahyeon Village in Donggang created flower beds and murals around the village, Okryeon Village in Bannam installed distinctive structures at the village entrance, and Bokryong Village in Donggang and Seondong Village in Bonghwang painted murals reflecting village characteristics on faded old walls, creating lively village streets.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “This is a precious result created by each village resident with a shared awareness of keeping their village clean and beautiful with their own hands. I sincerely thank the residents for their affection and efforts that brought about happy changes in the local community as well as village landscape improvement.”
