Gumi-si to Hold This Year's Sports Merit Awards Ceremony and Hanmaeum Festival
Over 520 Participants Including Athletes and Key Guests Gather for a Harmony Event
On the 18th, the Gumi City Sports Council in Gyeongbuk held the '2023 Gumi Sports Merit Awards Ceremony and Unity Festival' at the Multipurpose Gymnasium of the Complex Sports Center, attended by about 520 sportspeople from Gumi City, including Mayor Kim Jang-ho, provincial and city council members, heads of organizations and institutions, and sports council executives.
The event proceeded in the order of awarding meritorious persons, screening of achievement videos, and guest congratulatory speeches. Along with awarding 57 sports promotion meritorious persons, the Gumi City Sports Council Finance Committee, led by Chairman Yoon Sang-hoon, provided scholarships and goods worth a total of 20 million KRW to 20 outstanding athletes, creating a harmonious occasion to conclude the year.
Chairman Yoon Sang-hoon said, “I thank Mayor Kim Jang-ho and all the sportspeople of Gumi City who have worked hard for the achievements of Gumi sports this year, and I ask for your continued support and encouragement.”

Mayor Kim Jang-ho congratulated the awardees and said, “This year was a valuable year in which Gumi City established itself as a central city of sports, from the successful completion of the ‘2023 National Sports for All Festival’ to the hosting of the ‘2025 Gumi Asian Athletics Championships.’ We will strive to bring economic ripple effects through the expansion of sports infrastructure, such as the installation of an air dome, and will actively support the victory in the 62nd Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival to be held in Gumi City next year.”
