Gwangju City Council and Jeonnam Provincial Council Hold Yeongsan River Water Quality Improvement Policy Forum
The Gwangju Metropolitan Council and the Jeonnam Provincial Council held a policy forum on the theme of ‘Improvement of Yeongsan River Water Quality and Sustainable Water Management’ at 2 p.m. on the 18th in the Budget and Accounts Committee meeting room on the 5th floor of the City Council building.
Chairman Jo Seok-ho of the Environment and Welfare Committee presided over the meeting, where the two local governments discussed policy directions for mutual cooperation to jointly respond to the win-win development and water quality improvement of the Yeongsan River basin.
The presenters were ▲ Professor Yoon Kwang-sik of Chonnam National University with ‘Establishment and Role of the Comprehensive Water Management Plan for Yeongsan and Seomjin River Basins’ ▲ Choi Won-seok, Director of Water Management Policy at Gwangju Metropolitan City, with ‘Gwangju Metropolitan City’s Yeongsan River Water Quality Improvement and Sustainable Water Management Policy’ ▲ Shin Jae-wook, Director of Waterfront Space at Gwangju Metropolitan City, with ‘Yeongsan River 100-ri Trail, Y Project’ ▲ Park Seung-young, Director of Water Resources Management at Jeonnam Province, with ‘Yeongsan River Water Quality Conservation Measures Based on the Taehwa River Case’.
In the subsequent discussion, Gwangju City Council member Choi Ji-hyun, Jeonnam Provincial Council member Kim Ho-jin, Director Kim Jong-il of the Jeonnam Carbon Neutral Support Center, and Choi Nak-seon, Operating Committee Chair of the Bitgoeul River Network, freely exchanged opinions to explore cooperation and response measures for saving the Yeongsan River.

Chairman Jo Seok-ho of the Environment and Welfare Committee said, “The win-win development, water quality improvement, and sustainable water management of the Yeongsan River basin are tasks spanning decades,” adding, “Based on the opinions presented, we will cooperate with Jeonnam Province and do our best to save the Yeongsan River.”
