Gang Jin-won, Gangjin County Governor, 'Full Effort Until the End' to Secure Next Year's National Budget
Meeting with National Assembly Budget Committee Chair Seo Samsuk, Urging Active Cooperation
Gangjin County Governor Gang Jin-won visited the National Assembly on the 13th to make a final all-out effort to secure national funding for major projects next year.
According to the county on the 18th, Governor Gang Jin-won met with Seo Sam-seok, Chairman of the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee, at the National Assembly and requested cooperation in securing national funds, saying, "Since this budget is essential for the development of Gangjin, I hope you will carefully consider it."
The requested national funding projects include △ Wolchulsan National Park exploration infrastructure development project (30 billion KRW) △ Low-carbon automobile parts manufacturing infrastructure establishment (pilot manufacturing infrastructure for future car parts) project (19.8 billion KRW) △ Access road construction project for Gangjin Scientific Reserve Forces Training Center (8539th Unit, 3rd Battalion) (1.5 billion KRW), among others.

The Wolchulsan National Park exploration infrastructure development project aims to create campgrounds suitable for long stays and lowland forest experience facilities in response to the increasing number of visitors to Wolchulsan. It is expected to maximize the project’s effects by linking the natural and scenic resources of Wolchulsan National Park with famous tourist sites in Gangjin such as Muwisa Temple and Gangjin Dawon Tea Garden.
The low-carbon automobile parts manufacturing infrastructure project focuses on establishing an automobile parts manufacturing ecosystem that reduces carbon emissions compared to existing manufacturing methods and improves vehicle fuel efficiency and driving range by lightening parts.
In this regard, the county negotiated in November last year with six related companies about relocating to Seongjeon Industrial Complex. Once the manufacturing ecosystem is fully established, it is estimated to generate annual sales exceeding 70 billion KRW and create direct and indirect employment for about 200 people in the region through processing, painting, and post-treatment operations of the parts.
Additionally, the access road construction project for the Gangjin Scientific Reserve Forces Training Center (8539th Unit, 3rd Battalion) has become urgent due to the establishment of reserve forces training units for six counties (Gangjin, Jangheung, Yeongam, Haenam, Jindo, Wando) at the 8539th Unit, 3rd Battalion. From the second half of 2024, about 25,000 trainees are expected to visit annually, making this project essential for smooth vehicle flow and trainee convenience.
Governor Gang Jin-won stated, "Although securing national funding is more difficult than ever due to decreased tax revenue and the government's sound fiscal policy, we have made our best efforts to have major projects reflected in the government budget proposal." He added, "We will do our utmost until the end to persuade on the necessity and importance of the projects so that key pending projects can be maximally included in the National Assembly’s deliberations."
