BGF Supports Weekend Meals for Food-Insecure Children Through Employee Sharing Festival
Total Fundraising of 25 Million Won
BGF Group announced on the 17th that it will support weekend meals for children from vulnerable groups using employee donations collected through the '2023 BGF Nanum Festival.'
Since 2012, BGF Group has been conducting various forms of the Nanum Festival to foster a culture of donation within the company, including the BGF Love Sharing Box for item donations, the Nanum Walk campaign for walking donations, and improvement projects for child and youth communal living facilities. In particular, since 2020, with many children in blind spots of care facing food insecurity due to school and meal service closures caused by COVID-19, the festival has adopted the theme of ‘Sharing a Meal’ and has been running a weekend meal donation campaign for children from vulnerable groups.
This year, marking the end of the year, the Nanum Festival held for about two weeks starting from the 13th of last month saw the highest attendance ever, with around 1,200 participants. The campaign operates on a system where employees voluntarily decide the number of meals they want to share with children through the company intranet, with each meal valued at 9,000 KRW. This year, a total of 25 million KRW was raised, which is about twice the amount collected in the first year of the child meal donation campaign in 2020.
The employee donations collected in this way, along with sponsorship funds from the BGF Welfare Foundation, will be used for the ‘Home Warm Meal (溫밥)’ project supporting meals for children from vulnerable groups, providing a total of 7,500 meals throughout the next year.
Over approximately four years, the BGF Welfare Foundation has carried out this project, supporting weekend meals totaling 20,000 for about 300 elementary and middle school students from low-income families, single-parent families, and grandparent-headed households. Meal costs are provided weekly in CU points, allowing children to choose their preferred menu at nearby CU stores.
