Is CU Convenience Store a 'Cold Wave Shelter'? ... Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu's Brilliant Cold Wave Measures
Kim Kyung-ho, Gwangjin-gu Mayor, Designates 15 Local CU Convenience Stores as 'Cold Wave Shelters' and Receives Positive Feedback from Residents for Implementing the Idea
“A cold wave advisory has been issued. If you feel cold while walking on the street, please enter the nearest CU convenience store.”
This is an idea from Kim Kyung-ho, the mayor of Gwangjin District, to protect residents shivering from the cold.
Starting from the 16th, Gwangjin District will designate and operate 15 CU convenience stores in the area as ‘Cold Wave Shelters.’
The plan is to operate private stores as safe cold wave shelters for district residents.
Mayor Kim said, “To safely protect our residents, we have become the first in Seoul to operate commercial facilities as cold wave shelters, making them conveniently accessible 24 hours a day, including nights and weekends.”
He expressed gratitude to BGF Retail’s Gangdong Regional Division for their cooperation.
Especially this weekend, with temperatures expected to drop sharply to minus 11°C and heavy snow forecasted, Gwangjin District announced via his Facebook that the Snow Removal Countermeasures Headquarters has been operating at Level 1 duty since 9 p.m. on the 15th.
Kim Kyung-ho, who has many ideas and has served as the head of Seoul’s Welfare Headquarters and deputy mayor of Gwangjin District after passing the civil service exam, is expected to receive positive evaluations from residents for this unique initiative.
