With the creation of this modern pentathlon team, athletes’ career concerns have been somewhat alleviated, and the outflow of talented individuals to other regions has been prevented.
Jeonbuk modern pentathlon has consistently achieved good results at Jeonbuk Sports Middle and High Schools located in Wanju, and despite the harsh environment without any corporate teams, it has produced national-level athletes and shown remarkable performance.
The establishment of this corporate team is said to be largely due to the efforts of Yu Hee-tae, the mayor of Wanju-gun, who has shown great interest in sports and sports marketing, Jeong Gang-seon, chairman of the Jeonbuk Sports Council, who continuously explained the necessity of establishing a corporate sports team, and Lee Moon-soon, chairman of the Jeonbuk Modern Pentathlon Federation.
In fact, Mayor Yu Hee-tae has been striving to develop Wanju-gun into a sports hub and has devoted himself to sports marketing. This year, it is known that nearly 4.5 billion KRW in economic effects were generated through hosting various national and international competitions and attracting training camps.
At last month’s modern pentathlon national team selection, Kim Yu-bin and Kim Ye-na, graduates of Jeonbuk Sports High School, earned the Taegeuk mark, and they will represent South Korea in international competitions, raising the status of Jeonbuk sports worldwide.
Jeong Gang-seon, chairman of the Jeonbuk Sports Council, stated, "The Sports Council expresses gratitude to Wanju-gun for establishing the team and will strengthen cooperation with the county to support regional and sports development without hesitation."
Lee Moon-soon, chairman of the Jeonbuk Modern Pentathlon Federation, said, "We are pleased that Jeonbuk’s excellent athletes can now remain in their hometown and region to continue their careers stably without moving to other areas, and the federation will work even harder for the development of sports."
