Director Makoto Shinkai of 'Suzume no Tojimari' to Visit Korea on the 23rd
Director Makoto Shinkai is scheduled to visit Korea for two days on the 23rd and 24th ahead of the release of the special edition of the animated film 'Suzume no Tojimari,' the distributor Media Castle announced on the 15th.
'Suzume no Tojimari' was released domestically in March and became the first film released this year to surpass 5 million viewers. It also became the first Japanese film to enter the top 100 domestic releases.
Director Shinkai attracted 10 million viewers consecutively in Japan with three films: the animated movies 'Your Name.' (2017), 'Weathering with You' (2019), and 'Suzume no Tojimari.' All three films by the director are based on the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

Ahead of the special edition release, the distributor explained that Director Shinkai personally arranged his third visit to Korea. The screening will feature the 'Suzume no Tojimari: Tadaima' version, which includes Sota's ending lines not present in the original version, along with a stage greeting by the director. On the 23rd, screenings and Director Makoto Shinkai's stage greeting will take place at Megabox COEX in Seoul, and on the 24th at Lotte Cinema World Tower and CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall. The special edition will be released on January 10 next year.
