International Exchange Exhibition 'Gwangju Arirang' Held
Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will hold the 2023 Gwangju-Leipzig International Exchange Exhibition "Gwangju Arirang" at Sochon Art Factory Cube Museum at 5 p.m. on the 20th.
This exhibition is jointly organized by the Korea Culture and Arts Forum, Germany's Potemka Contemporary Art, and Sochon Art Factory. The exhibition, which was first held in Leipzig, Germany, from September 6 to 14, is now coming to Gwangju to meet the citizens.
Leipzig, Germany, is a sister city of Gwangju Metropolitan City and a cultural and artistic hub in Eastern Europe where the "Leipzig School" emerged in the early 2000s. The meeting of Gwangju, an Asian cultural hub city, and a European cultural and artistic city gives this exhibition special significance.
"Gwangju Arirang" deals with the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, which marks its 43rd anniversary this year. Four artists?Hong Seong-min, Heo Dal-yong, Lee Il-cheon, and Kim Seol-ah?who have been actively creating works themed on the spirit of Gwangju May, participate in the exhibition.
The exhibition is curated by art professionals including independent curator Jang Kyung-hwa and Professor Kim Seung-ho of Dong-A University.
Jang Kyung-hwa, the independent curator in charge of overall planning, stated, "We aim to reinterpret Gwangju in May 43 years ago, discuss the present 'May' together, and sing about the peace and future of life in our community."
