Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) will operate a unique theme park this winter. You can enjoy various winter activities in the city without having to travel far.
The "Seongbuk-gu Winter Theme Park" will open simultaneously on the 22nd at two locations: the multipurpose plaza by Uicheon in Seokgwan-dong (around Seokgwan-dong 376) and in front of the 7th complex in Gireum 1-dong (Gireum-dong 1285-8).
At the Uicheon multipurpose plaza, the best winter play facility, a snow sledding slope, will be operated. It features six lanes with an 80-meter-long slope where visitors can ride tube sleds down. However, use is restricted for those under 120 cm in height. Additionally, a snow play area open to all ages will be available.
Both the Uicheon multipurpose plaza and the area in front of the 7th complex in Gireum 1-dong will operate ice sledding areas. Visitors can experience traditional sleds and unique sleds that evoke childhood memories.
There are also various attractions and activities such as smelt fishing experience zones, curling, traditional games, and children's playground equipment, allowing children on winter break and their families to enjoy together.
Both locations operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For safety, the snow sledding and ice sledding areas run in seven sessions daily, each lasting 45 minutes with 15 minutes for maintenance. The park is closed every Monday, except when Monday falls on Christmas or New Year's Day, in which case it operates and closes the following Tuesday.
Seongbuk-gu residents can enter free of charge, while non-residents must pay an admission fee of 5,000 KRW at the Uicheon multipurpose plaza and 3,000 KRW in front of the 7th complex in Gireum 1-dong.
After admission, the snow sledding slope, snow play area, and traditional sleds are free to use. However, unique sleds have a rental fee of 3,000 KRW, and separate fees apply for children's playground equipment and smelt fishing experiences.
Opening ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. on the 23rd at the 7th complex in Gireum 1-dong and on the 24th at the Uicheon multipurpose plaza. The events will be enlivened with lively dance performances and a spectacular congratulatory show by the Mokdong figure skating youth team.
Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu said, "We have prepared with our best efforts to make this the safest and most enjoyable winter festival," adding, "We hope that the Seongbuk Winter Theme Park will create happy and wonderful memories for the whole family."
