Gyeonggi-do Wraps Up This Year's 'Ombudsman Meeting Day' for On-Site Grievance Consultations
Gyeonggi Province concluded its first-ever Gyeonggi Province-style on-site grievance consultation service this year with the 'Day to Meet the Ombudsman' held in Namyangju on the 14th.
The Day to Meet the Ombudsman is an active administrative initiative where ombudsmen, composed of external experts, visit the site directly to listen to the voices of residents regarding administrative actions and jointly seek solutions. This year, the event was held three times, divided into the Southwest, Southeast, and Northern regions.
The Gyeonggi Province Ombudsman selects grievances that are difficult to resolve due to the involvement of multiple administrative agencies and stakeholders, and conducts on-site meetings with the relevant city or county, where complainants and related agencies exchange opinions and seek consensus through mediation by the provincial and city/county ombudsmen.
At the first Day to Meet the Ombudsman held in Ansan City last October, issues related to the integrated operation of the special transportation service’s metropolitan mobility support service, such as delayed dispatch and user inconvenience, were reviewed. Users, call center counselors, administrative agencies, and entrusted operating organizations discussed operational problems and improvement measures by each institution.
The special transportation service is a transportation means used by people who have severe walking disabilities, wheelchair users, or those who find it difficult to use public transportation temporarily or permanently.
The Gyeonggi Province Ombudsman proposed improvement plans for the operation system through understanding and analyzing the operational conditions by region, and suggested comprehensive improvement measures such as expanding operational personnel and strengthening the control system to the responsible agencies. Accordingly, the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation decided to prepare improvement plans including linking operational personnel and the operation system.
Additionally, at the Day to Meet the Ombudsman events held last month and this month in Gwangju City and Namyangju City, discussions were held on supplementary measures for problems occurring in apartment complexes and on complaints requesting a change to the street house project due to floor area ratio issues in general commercial areas within redevelopment promotion districts.

Choi Eun-soon, Auditor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "It is desirable that on-site, resident-centered grievance handling is carried out through cooperation between the province and cities/counties," and added, "We will actively support the role of the ombudsman in approaching grievances from the residents’ perspective and mediating conflicts from an expert viewpoint."
