Baek Won-guk, Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Joins Geochang Hometown Love Donation Program
Donation of 3 Million Won at the Year-End Night Event of the Gyeong Geochang County Hometown Association
Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 13th that Baek Won-guk, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, donated 3 million KRW to the hometown love donation fund with exceptional hometown affection at the regular general meeting and year-end night event of the Geochang-gun Hometown Association in Seoul on the 12th.
Vice Minister Baek graduated from Geochang Daeseong High School and the Department of Architectural Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University, and earned a master's degree from the Graduate School of Future Strategy at KAIST. He entered public service by passing the 31st Technical Civil Service Examination in the architecture category as the top scorer in 1995. He has served as the head of the Busan Regional Construction and Management Administration, Director of Housing Welfare Policy, Director of Land Policy, and worked as an expert member of the Economic Division 2 of the Yoon Seok-yeol government transition committee before serving as the Secretary for Land, Infrastructure and Transport at the Presidential Office.

View original imageVice Minister Baek is recognized as an excellent communication-oriented manager with outstanding ability to manage conflicts and derive solutions in policy areas where the positions of various stakeholders are sharply divided, such as national balanced development, urban regeneration, and happy housing.
In particular, based on his experience directing on-site responses to transportation issues such as the Cargo Solidarity collective transport refusal, the groundbreaking of the Chuncheon~Sokcho high-speed railway, and the toll reduction on the Incheon Bridge while serving as Secretary, he is currently carrying out projects related to public transportation, daily logistics, and automobiles, as well as national transportation infrastructure (SOC) projects including roads, railways, and aviation, such as the early opening of the GTX, commuting bus measures, and the promotion of underground expressways.
Vice Minister Baek said, “While working in public service away from home, I have always kept the longing and gratitude for my hometown Geochang in my heart,” and added, “Like a butterfly’s small flap causing a typhoon in the distant sea, I hope my small sincerity will be an opportunity for Geochang to make a new leap forward.”

Geochang-gun has raised more than 310 million KRW in donations through active participation from hometown residents nationwide, central government officials, and related organizations. The hometown love donation system is striving not only to raise funds but also to serve as a driving force for expanding the living population, as well as generating income for small-scale farms and revitalizing the local economy.
