Expo Art Gallery Opens Yeosu City Collection Exhibition 'The World of Mishi'
Exhibition Linked to the Construction of the City Art Museum
Over 30 Works by Kim Hongsik, Ryu Kyungchae, Son Sanggi, and Others Revealed
The Yeosu Expo Art Gallery is hosting the Yeosu City Collection Exhibition "The World of Mishi," linked to the construction of the Yeosu City Museum of Art, until March 10 next year.
This exhibition features about 30 works, including paintings, sculptures, and photographs related to Yeosu art, collected through a public contest since last year by Yeosu City for the construction of the city museum.
The works on display include those depicting Yeosu's history and landscapes, as well as pieces addressing human rights, ethical, and social issues based on the pacifist ideology related to the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident.
In particular, the exhibition highlights the aspects of regional modern and contemporary art history through major artists of the Korean modern and contemporary art scene who were active in the Yeosu area, such as Kim Hongsik, Ryu In, and Ryu Kyungchae.
Additionally, focusing on works by contemporary local artists depicting scenes of Hyeongjemyo and Doseong Village, the exhibition offers a perspective on Yeosu's present and reflects on the role of the current era by addressing global discourses based on pacifism.
During the exhibition period, on the 15th at 4 p.m., a donation ceremony for the collection to support the construction of the Yeosu City Museum of Art will be held as a related event, open to all citizens interested in art.
A city official stated, "We hope that through viewing the Yeosu City collection works, which are being revealed for the first time, visitors will experience the stories of Yeosu's mountain ridges and sea, its turbulent history, and the traces of the lives of local residents."
The Expo Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and weekends, and is closed on Mondays.
