Gwangju Nam-gu to Launch Large-Scale Happiness Satisfaction Survey Starting Next Year
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has completed the development of a Nam-gu-specific specialized happiness index, which serves as basic data for discovering happiness policies for its 220,000 residents, and will launch a large-scale happiness satisfaction survey starting next year.
On the 13th, Nam-gu announced, "We have developed 18 happiness indicators reflecting the characteristics of Nam-gu to understand the level of happiness in our region and analyze various factors that act as its background."
This is to identify the diverse understandings and demands that residents in the district consider most important regarding happiness, and to concentrate district administration capabilities on areas where happiness is vulnerable, thereby realizing universal happiness that satisfies all 220,000 residents.
The newly developed Nam-gu-specific happiness index consists of a total of 92 indicators.
These include 18 Nam-gu-specific specialized happiness indicators, painstakingly created since early this year to reflect the unique characteristics of Nam-gu, and 74 common indicators used as basic data when discovering happiness-related policies.
In particular, to develop indicators reflecting regional characteristics and to discover integrated happiness indicators through life-cycle analysis of local residents, Nam-gu held two roundtable discussions for collecting residents' opinions from March to June this year and conducted in-depth interviews with residents and public officials, dedicating significant effort.
The characteristic of the completed Nam-gu-specific specialized happiness indicators is that the various factors residents consider important for happiness are broadly condensed into four categories, closely related to the small, everyday aspects of life.
The main factors include ▲ the sufficiency of public spaces that enrich life through leisure and cultural activities ▲ social safety nets for all members ▲ resolving disparities within the region and fostering a community of coexistence ▲ and pride in the Nam-gu community.
With the establishment of the Nam-gu-specific specialized happiness indicators, the discovery of practical happiness policies for the 220,000 residents is expected to accelerate from next year.
Nam-gu plans to conduct a one-on-one face-to-face happiness satisfaction survey targeting 2,000 residents in the district by the first half of next year, and through data analysis, discover various policy projects that maximize residents' sense of happiness.
