'Machine Tool Workers' Day' Lee Hong-ju, Hanwha Precision Machinery Team Leader, Awarded Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Commendation
Recognized for Contributions to Domestic Production of Solar Wafer Manufacturing Equipment
Hanwha Precision Machinery, a manufacturing solutions specialist under Hanwha Group, announced on the 8th that Team Leader Lee Hong-ju of the Machine Tool Business Division received the 'Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Commendation' at the 23rd Machine Tool Workers' Day event.
Team Leader Lee was recognized for his contribution to the development of the domestic industry and the increase in exports through the localization of DWS (Diamond Wire Saw) equipment, a production facility for solar wafer manufacturing.
DWS equipment is a production facility that processes wafers, the basic unit of solar cells. It is a process that slices very thinly a very hard square-shaped polysilicon block called an ingot using a wire embedded with diamonds, and is one of the core pieces of equipment used in solar cell production.
On the 8th, Lee Hong-ju, team leader of the DWS team in the Machine Tool Business Division at Hanwha Precision Machinery, received the "Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Commendation" in recognition of his contribution to the localization of solar cell production equipment at the "23rd Machine Tool Workers' Day" and is taking a commemorative photo.

Hanwha Precision Machinery has been continuously developing technology for localization since 2021 to enter the solar wafer manufacturing equipment market, which had been led by overseas companies from Japan, China, and others.
They successfully entered the solar cell business production by developing DWS equipment capable of producing large-area wafers at the world’s highest level. They are also conducting ongoing preliminary research and development to enter the SiC power semiconductor wafer processing machine market.
Regarding the award, Team Leader Lee said, “I want to continue to grow the domestic K-equipment market significantly through continuous innovation in the production equipment market, which is currently led by foreign equipment.”
