POSCO Energy Department Wins Grand Prize in Corporate Category at Gyeongbuk Energy Awards
Yeongcheon City Receives Award for Public Sector
25 Businesspeople and Public Officials Also Commended
On the 7th at 2 p.m., Gyeongbuk Province will hold the ‘2023 Gyeongsangbuk-do Energy Awards’ ceremony at the Yeongcheon City Youth Training Center auditorium.
The Gyeongbuk Energy Awards are held annually to discover and reward individuals who have contributed to the development of the regional energy industry through improving energy efficiency and expanding renewable energy supply, while promoting a province-wide culture of energy saving and encouraging a transition to a low-consumption, high-efficiency energy structure.
In particular, this event holds greater significance as it emphasizes the importance of energy saving and efficiency improvement within the framework of Gyeongbuk Province’s ‘Low Consumption, High Efficiency Energy Transformation’ policy aimed at responding to the climate crisis and achieving global energy independence.
This year marks the 21st ceremony, where 25 recipients will receive the Governor’s Commendation: five outstanding companies and five excellent cities/counties in the group category, and ten civilians and five public officials in the individual category.
In the corporate category, the grand prize goes to POSCO Energy Division 1 Power Plant (Plant Manager Jeong Yoon-sik) for efforts in energy savings through timely replacement and repair of energy facilities and improvements in combined power generation seawater system equipment. The excellence awards are jointly awarded to Gyuwon Tech (CEO Kim Gyuwon), Novelis Korea (CEO Park Jong-hwa), and the merit awards to THE (CEO Kim Jae-geon) and Yuhan-Kimberly Gimcheon Plant (Plant Manager Lee Seung-hyun).
In the public sector, Yeongcheon City received the grand prize and a project fund of 70 million KRW for energy policy initiatives.
Yeongcheon City was highly recognized for actively promoting renewable energy expansion policies such as the Yeongcheon Smart Farm project, installation of eco-friendly LED multi-signs using solar power, advancement of the energy management system for government buildings, and selection for national funding in renewable energy supply projects.
The excellence awards went to Andong City and Goryeong County, and the merit awards to Pohang City and Yecheon County.
The Governor’s individual commendations were awarded to 15 recipients including Senior Engineer Ji Sang-hoon of Nongshim Gumi Plant, Manager Bang Young-hwan of Korea Miura Industry, Manager Lee Sang-jun of SK Bioscience, Manager Jang Jae-hyung of Gimcheon Energy Service, Deputy General Manager Jeong Kyung-soo of OCI Co., Ltd., Deputy Manager Yoon Jong-hoon of Korea Energy Agency Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters, Manager Kim Nam-jin of KT&G Yeongju Plant, Manager Lee Yong-woo of Toray Advanced Materials, Manager Moon Ji-young of Korea Gas Safety Corporation Daegu Headquarters, Facility Manager Kim Chan-young of Dongwoo CM, Local Industry 8 Kim Kyung-hyun of Gyeongju City, Local Industry 7 Woo Seong-jin of Andong City, Local Industry 8 Lee Seung-hoon of Gumi City, Local Administration 7 Jang Hyo-eun of Goryeong County, and Local Industry 9 Lim Hyung-min of Bonghwa County.

Lee Dal-hee, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongbuk Province, stated, “This year’s Gyeongsangbuk-do Energy Awards prove that the ‘Low Consumption, High Efficiency Energy Transformation’ policy for global energy independence in response to the climate crisis is deeply rooted in both the public and private sectors.” He added, “Through regional differentiated electricity rates and energy decentralization policies led by Gyeongbuk Province, we will lead the era of livable local cities.”
