18-Year Veteran Head Nurse Kim Hyunji Saves Unconscious Man in His 70s
An 18-year veteran nurse saved the life of a man in his 70s who collapsed at a neighboring table while dining at a restaurant in Changwon, Gyeongnam, drawing public attention.
According to Changwon Uichang Fire Station and Changwon Hanmaeum Hospital on the 5th, on the 26th of last month, a man in his 70s, Mr. A, suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed while eating at a restaurant in Dong-eup, Uichang-gu, Changwon City.
CCTV footage of the incident shows that when Mr. A suddenly collapsed while trying to stand up, his family appeared very distressed. Customers then moved Mr. A outside to a wider area to lay him down.
At that moment, a woman sitting at the adjacent table approached and checked Mr. A’s weak pulse. She was identified as Kim Hyun-ji (39), an 18-year veteran head nurse working at Changwon Hanmaeum Hospital. Nurse Kim assessed Mr. A’s symptoms and determined that he was showing signs of cardiac arrest.
Nurse Kim administered emergency treatment to Mr. A for over five minutes in the restaurant’s parking lot, and fortunately, Mr. A regained stability. She also prevented the family from giving him water, fearing his airway might be blocked.
In an interview with KBS, Nurse Kim explained, "Since he lost consciousness while eating, I slightly turned his head in case he vomited and continuously stimulated him to wake him up."
