On the 5th, Entegris held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Entegris Korea Technology Center at Hanyang University ERICA Campus in Ansan, attended by about 60 people including Bertrand Loy, CEO of Entegris; Kim Jaewon, CEO of Entegris Korea; Hong Sangwoo, Gyeonggi Province International Relations Ambassador; Lee Mingeun, Mayor of Ansan; Song Bauna, Chairperson of Ansan City Council; and Lee Gijeong, President of Hanyang University.
Earlier in April, after Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon met with Jim A. O’Neill, Senior Vice President of Entegris, at the Entegris Technology Center in Connecticut, USA, the investment location was carefully reviewed, and it was finally decided to build a factory at the Innovation Park of Hanyang University ERICA Campus in Ansan.
Entegris, headquartered in Massachusetts, USA, is a comprehensive semiconductor solutions company providing advanced materials and process solutions for cutting-edge industries such as semiconductors and life sciences.
Since establishing its headquarters and research institute in Suwon in 2012, Entegris operates factories in Jang-an, Hwaseong, Oseong, Pyeongtaek, and Munmak in Gangwon Province.
Through the Korea Technology Center, Entegris aims to integrate and strengthen its research and development capabilities within Korea.
The center will develop advanced analysis and application technologies in semiconductor process fields such as thin film deposition and polishing, and promote collaboration with client companies.
Additionally, by conducting research and development on advanced semiconductor materials essential for semiconductor manufacturing processes, it is expected to secure technology and contribute to strengthening the domestic semiconductor industry base. Furthermore, new employment of research and development personnel at the master’s and doctoral levels is planned, which is anticipated to create quality jobs and foster specialized talent in the semiconductor field.
In particular, with the groundbreaking of the Entegris Korea Technology Center, Ansan City will host its first semiconductor research and development center, and Gyeonggi Province expects this to aid in the future designation of Ansan Science Valley as a Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone.
